Sodium occurs naturally in all chicken, about 100-300mg per 1 lb. But most chicken you eat at restaurants or buy at the meat counter has been BRINED (injected with a salt solution) just to look and “taste” better.
Hidden salt in brined chicken can cost you 1,670mg per 1 lb. 🍗 P.S. Restaurants LOVE ❤️ adding salt to their food because it is an inexpensive way to elevate the taste of their food without any effort.
Chicken that has been enhanced with a brining solution makes it extremely difficult for those trying to remain on a low sodium diet. Ask your local grocery store butcher what chicken in the case of packages has been brined to save on unnecessary sodium. 🧂And who wants to pay more for water and salt!?!? 💰
In the US it is required for a label to say if there is a solution added. Look for words “solution” or “basted” or “added” or “injected”. However, when you buy chicken directly from the meat counter it does not have a label. From experience, I know meat counters and butchers treat their meat differently and would encourage you to ask your local butcher if they brine anything. Try my Recipe or
