In a large fry pan, combine the olive oil, unsalted butter and diced onions. Cook over medium-high heat for 10-15 minutes until soft and caramelized.
In a separate bowl, mix the sour cream, cream cheese, mayonnaise, no-salt substitute, fresh ground black pepper and cayenne pepper until well combined and smooth. Immediately pour and mix the warm caramelized onions into the bowl.
For best results, refrigerate over night. Serve at room temperature with no salt potato chips or low salt pita chips.
*Some commons brands of salt substitutes are Nu-Salt, NoSalt, and Morton’s Salt Substitute found at your local grocery store.
